Truffula Tea on TpT

Last Friday, before our break, I decided to treat my kiddos {and Ms. Thomas and I} to a little Truffula Tea!
It was the perfect way to leave for our Spring break since we had seen "The Lorax" the previous day.

The littles loved the movie!

Anyways, on to our "Truffulla Tea"…
We created this little treat, to go along with a writing activity I had planned for my class.

How cute is the Truffula Tea? Love.

My kiddos completed a writing activity for "How To Make Truffula Tea". My littles were not allowed to dig in until they were finished with their writings!
But I am pretty sure it was worth it! They loved it :)
Check out my TeachersPayTeachers Store if you would like to purchase this little writing activity!

Classroom Happenings...

I tried to snap a few pictures before I left school today…

In math last week we learned about skip counting. I saw Cara Carroll's idea on using socks to demonstrate skip counting my 2s. Knowing that most of my students would not be able to bring a new pair of socks to school, I drew a pair of socks. I had each student decorate their socks, and then we labeled them by 2s.

Here is the template I drew….

We also used hands to skip count by 5s and 10s but I forgot to take that picture!

In Social Studies we discussed "Me on the Map". I loved doing this activity! Tip to those of you who attempt this: it takes a while to make if you have your students doing all the work: cutting, labeling, drawing (which I did). It is definitely something I will be doing again next year.

Last week I told you that were were creating How To Writings during our writers workshop time. My students wrote "How To Scare a Cat" based off of the story Scardey-Cat Splat. Instead of copying my Scaredy Cat on construction paper I just copied it on white paper and had my students color it accordingly. Save myself some time ya know!

This week our topic in writing is creating a report. I chose to use our big book from Treasures this week "Red Eyed Tree Frog".

First, we used this brace map to organize the information we learned from the book.

Tomorrow, we will use our bubble map to begin brainstorming ideas for our sentences!
After we publish our writing, we will then create our lil' Red Eyed Tree Frogs.

Also, I am working on a Subtraction Packet to use in work stations. Hopefully that will be done tomorrow! It will cover subtracting with counters, subtraction number sentences, comparing the difference, counting back on a number line, etc.

Scaredy Cat Splat/ Pumpkin Fun

In Treasures this week we are learning about How To Writings. Therefore, in honor of Halloween I decided to create a How To Writing based upon the story "Scaredy- Cat, Splat!"  Today we read the story and discussed our topic in writing for the week. I explained to the students that we would be writing "How To  Scare a Cat" based on the book. The kids loved it. In whole group today we discussed ways in the story the cats were scared and other options for how to scare a cat.
Above is my craftivity for a scaredy cat. We will create this on Friday to go along with our published final copy!  (Check back for the template to create the cat)

Tomorrow, my students will complete a bubble map with the ideas they brainstormed.
Wednesday the students will begin working on their "Sloppy Copy".  On Thursdays they can continue to work on their sloppy copies and I will revise their writing during this time.  On Friday, my kids publish their writings and turn it in as well as create our scaredy cats!
Below is my example I showed my students today of my expectations for their published writing.

Also, today in class we estimated the seeds in a pumpkin. I had my students estimate the number of seeds and then write what the actual answer was afterwards. We were all off!

*Also if you downloaded the template for the Doubles Rap Ipod, check back to make sure you downloaded the correct template! I accidentally uploaded two different versions and one was not formatted correctly! Click the picture below to find it in my TpT store for free!*
